| | | MX Cap Tailgate Window Not What I ExpectedA.R.E. Mx Series MX Series : Chevy/GMC Silverado/Sierra
July 27, 2015 Posted by: Joe
Having been a longtime owner of an MX cap from A.R.E. on a Chevy Silverado, when I ordered an MX cap for my new 2015 Chevrolet Silverado I was surprised at some of the changes in the tailgate lift window. First, the trim appeared unfinished with one side of the metal trim about 1/2" shorter than the other side and the edges of the aluminum trim were not covered in black paint, but unfinished. Additionally, the plastic drip edge added to the bottom of the window makes sense to eliminate some of the leakage experienced with the rubber strip in the past, but where the drip edge meets the fiberglass cap, the openings seem unfinished, or raw with the unpainted edge of the fiberglass showing. I had ordered the center T-handle because I had been familiar with it, and while the new handle seems sturdier, the shortened "T" makes it more of a knob than a handle and is harder to grip with the plastic drip edge extending outward below it. The lift window also is higher when extended and may save me bumping my head more when placing cargo inside, however, with the 17" wheels standard now on Silverado's I find I have to extend my arm fully (I'm about 6-foot tall) and still cannot reach the outside T handle but must grab the inside handle to bring down the window. This could be a problem for customers with limited reach. The paint finish was the quality I expected and the fit and applied drip edge around the base appeared very professional.
