| | | Looks great but holding my breath on the topper doorCX Evolve : Chevy/GMC Silverado/Sierra
September 11, 2019 Posted by:
I purchased the CX Evolve topper for my 2018 Chevy Silverado back in May 2019, but my topper didn't get installed until September 2019 due to it still being in production. I was told by the dealer that it would potentially be a couple of months. Overall, I'm not too disappointed with the timing as it wasn't something I urgently needed. The topper itself looks great. I had the roof rack added along with the windoors for easier access to items toward the front of the bed. The doors are solid. Minor items inside kind of turn me off though. I'm not sure if this is on the installers or A.R.E, but it was like the topper was manufactured or installed and there was not cleanup of the carpeted area. Some holes look like they were drilled, maybe there were bolts there at one point, but removed? However there is a dust around it similar to what you'd find like when installing drywall. I don't know what that is and it wasn't explained to me after my install. There are also a few minor things that look to be manufactured "on the cheap", such as the front slider window. It doesn't open smoothly and I can tell it's moving like glass on glass with that screeching sound that comes along with it. For what I paid for the topper I expected something a bit better. The most important concern I have so far is the back door to the topper. I know it is a new functionality that they have been working on, but my door glass door doesn't lock properly. For example, once the door is shut and locked (slammed hard or gently...doesn't matter) I am able to turn the handle and at least one side opens up while supposedly locked. It would make it very easy for a thief to pry up one side and the other pop up. This came to my attention by one of the reps that did my walk-through after it was installed, and he said I will need to "let the rubber seal settle" after a while. He kind of brushed it off like it was no big deal. I'm not so sure, but will keep an eye on it. I'm cautious to leave anything of worth in there. Overall, I love the look of the topper, but the quality and design I'm not so sure of yet. I would recommend this product with caution because of the above issues. Maybe mine is a one-off issue. The installer that I worked with was initially very customer friendly during the purchase.
