| | | Big Cap for a big truck, with a story to tellTW Series : Ford Super-Duty
October 27, 2020 Posted by:
We ordered a TW Series cap for our F350 with 8 foot bed in July 2020. It was installed on October 13, more on that long time period in a minute. We like the cap very much. We ordered the front glass with a fold down hinge to allow cleaning the glass on the truck and the cap, otherwise you can't get in there. We also got the glass on drivers side with a hinge at top and gas lifts, and two knobs that lock. This allows access to the tool box/fuel tank from the fueling side of truck. The finish and quality look good, other than the 'ding' I had to touch up. Now the rest on the delay, ding, etc. Due to Covid-19, I suppose, the first delivery was scheduled for late August or early September. It made it to local dealer around September 12. I got a call from them and said that during transport another cap on the transport trailer got a broken glass and that had chipped several other units and ours. We never saw it. It never came off truck and went back to Ohio for repair or replacement, I don't know for sure which. On Oct 7, I received a voicemail that it was in and if we got there next day we could have it installed before hurricane Delta. We were out of state helping my parents move with the truck. The next day we were home boarding up the house for the hurricane and then gone again with the RV to get out of the storm. Finally home again we went the next Tuesday to get it installed. After we got there and were looking at the unit for the first time on a outdoor rack with lots of caps, my wife found some small chips and a gouge on a corner, about the size of a fingernail. Uh oh! The dealer said it probably happened when putting caps in the building to get them out of hurricane winds. After negotiations and much deliberation and understanding that it would be 10-12 weeks for a replacement unit, we decided to take it, as is, with some other compensations to offset the damage. They gave us some touch up paint. I was able to apply the touch up and clear coat, and you don't notice the gouge too much unless you look at it directly, as it at least is painted to match and sorta smoothed out with multiple coats of paint and clear coat. This cap is BIG and the top height is 7'4" high at the rear. The back door glass seems huge when viewed from the rear of truck. That's the story!
