| | | Leaking capA.R.E. Cx Series CX Classic :
January 14, 2020 Posted by: JS
I purchased a ARE truck cap style CX series, S.N.-N3750295 on 9/20/2019 for a Chevrolet, Silverado Crew Cab, Short Bed, New Style Body. The cap leaks into the bed of the truck at the bottom corners of the rear door. There is a large hole on each side. Hole is 20mm in diameter. There is a flap that is supposed to plug the hole but it is fouled by the tail gate. I went back to the dealer and he agreed it is a design/manufacturing issue because the door frame is recessed to far into the cap. The dealer is not set up to modify the cap structure or the door frame. I contacted ARE and talked to a lady in Consumer Affairs. She informed me that 1. I did not purchase the cap from ARE. I purchased from a dealer and ARE does not deal directly with individuals. 2. ARE does not advertise that any of their units will not leak, they are water manageable. I received the parts from the dealer today that ARE says will fix the problem. Another flap just like the one already installed and a seal for the tail gate. The present situation is I have a cap that leaks into the truck bed and no solution except another flap. In my opinion purchasing a CX series cap for a 2019 Silverado is a buyer beware because there is a serious design/manufacturing issue with the hole allowing water to get into the bed.
