| | | Poor service recovery and questionable design qualityA.R.E. Dcu Series DCU Series : Chevy/GMC Silverado/Sierra

Recently bought my 2nd ARE. New truck, so I had to buy a new topper. Bought the very stylish, but pricey REVO model - no sliding side windows. After about a month, the left side of the back window detached from the hinge. It's glued, not bolted to the hinge. So, I'm okay with this design IF the epoxy was effective, but ARE clearly has design and/or quality control issues.
My dealer said "no problem" just take picture and I'll order a new one, which he did right away. Turns out ARE couldn't get the replacement window on the weekly truck run, or the next one a week later! So, I'm going with a plastic cover for 4-5 weeks!!
So, I paid a HUGE amount of money for this fancy topper (my previous one performed like a champ, so I liked ARE toppers) and it failed. No call, no letter, no nuthin' from ARE. They clearly don't find customer loyalty to be important because if they did, they would have sent the replacement from Ohio to Wisconsin on an expedited delivery. Where I work, if we have anything close to a dissatisfied customer, we call, perform service recovery, file the situation in our quality control system, convene a team meeting to do a root cause analysis, etc.
While I will stay with this topper - assuming the new back glass stays put - I will NEVER buy another ARE again.
Had ARE done anything about service recovery, they may have kept a loyal customer. Instead, I'm writing here and many other places to tell this story which could result in many "never customers."
So the lesson is - ARE has cool designs, and decent performance IMO. But if you run into any quality issues, don't expect ARE to cry a tear because they already have your money$$$.
