| | | Flaw with the back glassA.R.E. Cx Series CX Classic : Ford Ranger
August 03, 2024 Posted by: Reed
Im a little late to write this… I have a ranger with the CX classic. The rear window just shattered on me one day closing it, it’s not like I’m rough on it ever. It just shattered. I was thinking oh well it was 60° in the day and 25° in the night, maybe it was just brittle. No. I called ARE (they don’t want to deal with you so they refer you to a dealer to avoid problems) and in the end they said it was $600 for new glass plus $150 installation at a dealer. Yea no I’m not paying $750 for a flat piece of glass that broke. So I bought Lexan and cut it to shape, and it works good. BUT… when I installed it, I drilled the rivets out in the window frame, to see that they were extremely weak, they cause the bottom part of the frame to bend. I know damn well if they used bolts instead of rivets, or just riveted both sides, my glass would’ve been fine. The rivets suck. It’s a design flaw. I bought the topper 18 months prior to this, so obviously the 1 year warranty doesn’t apply but I doubt these people would help if it was in affect. They sent me what looked like automated responses. I want $200 the Lexan replacement that could’ve been avoided.
