From the sales literature the CX Evolve seemed like a great cap, but the design flaws make it disappointing. The biggest design flaw is the rear door. The one piece glass door seems like it would be an upgrade over a standard flat aluminum framed door, but it isn’t. The glass doesn’t fit well to the contour of the tailgate or to the cap. The fameless glass is just too flexible and unable to close reliably. In order to have no gap between the outer edges of the door, the locks have to be adjusted so that to lock the door you have to push on each corner once the door is lowered.
The other main issue is with the front window. I ordered the front tilting window with a center sliding window. Rain water coming off the cab fills the aluminum frame spilling over the slider track and directly into the interior. The water runs down the cap rails and depending on how the truck is leveled it spills down somewhere. Plus since the interior is carpeted the cap rails soak up the water and stay wet for a long time. This is just another poor design.
The interior carpeting is done so poorly. The carpeting was stretched between the cap rail and the cap side so that it’s just one long bubble with at least 1” gap between the fiberglass and the carpet. When the carpet was applied they didn’t take the time to press it into the corner. Plus the carpet is already coming off the ceiling in several spots. It going to be a mess in no time.
The last quality issue is the exterior transition of the cap rail to the truck bed. The bottom is just raw fiberglass. The cap was delivered already with a chip in the rail due to the unfinished bare fiberglass. It should have been coated to seal up and finish the edge to protect against chipping. All in all this cap is not made very well.
