The sides of the shell bulge out no less than a 1/4 inch on both sides. The under side that does bulge out is not painted and can be seen very easily. There is a small blemish ( chip ) on the drivers side on the under side of the shell that I'll be keeping a close eye on. The other things ( fit, color, and craftsmanship are very good) If I had seen this shell on a 2016 Silverado before I purchased this A.R.E. I would have looked at other shells. This is my second A.R.E., THE FIRST one is on my 2012 Tacoma and it is absolutely perfect.
