V Series : Dodge Ram April 30, 2020    Posted by: I originally went to a competitor looking for a truck cap. I even made a deposit on that one. However, that dealer had some issues and when I reviewed the contract, I realized I was not getting what I thought I had ordered. I went online to ARE and spec'd out what I wanted. I received a quote and a dealer contact. When I spoke with the dealer, Trimline of Reno, I was impressed. He reviewed my order with me and made some suggestions on how I could get the truck cap I wanted with the options that would work for me and save me some money in the process. I gave them a deposit and placed my order. When I was notified my cap had arrived at the dealer, we scheduled an installation appointment. I dropped my truck off and was told it might take about 4 hours to complete the installation. I had a seat and waited. A little over 2 hours later, I was told my truck was ready. I said that was fast! The shop owner told me he was able to put two techs on the job, one to do the cap installation and one to do the electrical. He took the time to go over the features of my new cap with me and made sure I was satisfied. I am very happy with the single LED light strip in the top of the cap, it lights up the interior completely. The front fold down window makes it very easy to clean the glass on either the front of the cap or the back of the cab. I have two larger breed dogs and I have had them in the back of the truck with the cap on. Having the pet screens in the windows means I can open the windows and not have to worry about them damaging the screens. I received 2 keys for my cap when I purchased it. About 45 days after I had the cap installed, I decided I wanted a third key and contacted my dealer. He told me he had one available and they cost $10. When I got there to pick up the key, they told me never mind, no charge. I work in auto parts sales and I will recommend ARE and Trimline of Reno to anyone who asks. From start to finish and even after the sale I am extremely pleased with the quality, fit finish and service I have received. My first was for my Ford F150 and I was more than 100 percent pleased with it. My new ARE cap is on my 2019 Ford Super Crew Ranger. This cap, like my first one, is high quality and functional except for one thing; as initially installed on my truck there was a major rainwater intrusion problem. The problem was not due to the construction of the cap itself but rather with the design of the Ranger bed rails and tailgate. To prevent the intrusion of rainwater (and vehicle wash water as well) the first thing I did was to inject copious amounts of silicone sealant between the cap and the top of the left and right front corners of the truck bed rail where from inside the cap you could see straight through to the outside. Next, there was a wide gap at each end of the truck tailgate that ran from the top edge of the tailgate to the bottom. I glued rubber caulking strips to the ends of the tailgate and to the sidewalls of the bed to seal off this gap. Obviously, the reason for installing a cap on your truck is to transport materials out of the weather. This was not possible with my cap as installed...not the fault of the cap itself, but I feel that I should have been forewarned of this anomaly prior to buying the cap. That is the reason that I did not give the highest rating possible for function on this product. The fit is perfect. The windows don’t slide very well. I’m guessing they loosen up a little with time and use. What a great product!
